Further Information

Who we are
We are alumni and friends of Antioch who are determined to resist the decision of the University’s Board of Trustees to close Antioch in 2008. Led by the elected College Alumni Board, we will use any means necessary to ensure that Antioch remains open, solves its fiscal problems, and is granted an independent governance structure. The website of the national effort to keep Antioch alive is www.antiochians.org.

There are approximately 600 Antioch alumni with verified addresses in the Chicago metropolitan area; Chicago is one of the most active centers of activity in the wake of the Board’s decision.
The immediate context
The Board of Trustees is meeting on the weekend of August 24th in Cincinnati, which will include a public hearing. There are strong indications that (despite the protestations of the University Chancellor and Board President) many University trustees see this as an opportunity to revisit their original decision. Many Chicagoans will travel to Southern Ohio for this event to join alumni from around the country to support these Board members.

The Alumni Board has established a Revival Fund and has raised more than $600,000 and has another $2,000,000 in commitments pending. The AB has asked that all 38 local alumni chapters – most of which have become active since the Board of Trustees’ June announcement to suspend operations of the College – hold events during the weekend of August 17th to demonstrate solidarity, raise media awareness of the scope of the alumni movement, and secure additional commitments of money and time.

The Chicago chapter has been extremely active in this period. At its first post-reunion meeting, the group passed a very strong resolution that has been the model for many other chapter resolutions around the country. (web link) At its most recent full meeting July 29th, the 45 attendees decided on a major chapter event on August 18th at Winnemac Park, Argyle and Damen in Chicago.
